Every now and then I am reminded of the brilliance of wing design and the miracle of flight. On this occasion it was when reviewing some images of a Pacific gull flying towards me against a stiff Phillip Island wind.

Rain-laden clouds such as these have dumped huge amounts of water over
eastern Victoria and southern NSW in recent days
